The Korean Hornbeam is a small, handsome, slow-growing tree. Rare in the wholesale nursery trade, this species deserves wider use as a small specimen tree, eventually reaching 25ft in an upright-spreading shape. The real treat is in the fall when the leaves turn red, yellow and orange, not diffusely but in stripes.
We have acquired a new allotment of this sought after maple in sizes from 4/5’ up to tree form that are around 10’ tall with a nearly 3” caliper single trunk. The full moon maple is a popular yellow-leaved Japanese maple that is small and slow growing, but can mature to as tall and wide as 16 to 20 feet. Leaves emerge as a showy bright yellow and gradually darkens to yellow-green by summer. Fall brings shades of orange-red, sometimes tinged with purple. Reddish purple spring flowers give way to red samaras that contrast with the yellow-green leaves. Hardy in zones 5 to 7
Shindeshojo is the most brilliant producer of red spring foliage that can persist for a month or longer into spring. Emerging leaves are a flaming scarlet red, fading to reddish green and green by summer; autumn leaves are shades of red and orange. The bark of young stems is reddish brown and small attractive reddish flowers appear in the spring, but are not showy. Small and slow growing, it matures into an upright rounded shrub 7 to 10 feet tall and wide and does well in zones 5 to 9.

Unlike any evergreen in North America, the Chilian pine, commonly called the monkey puzzle tree, is a rare and endangered conifer native to Chile and is hardy to USDA zones 7-10. Providing year-round interest, it has a loose pyramidal shape when young but develops an umbrella-like crown with the loss of lower branches as the tree ages. Thick, leathery scale leaves completely cover rope-like branches and are stiff, dark green and glossy with a spiny tip. Bark is gray-brown and ridged. A. araucana is a slow grower that can eventually reach heights up to 100 feet with a canopy 50 feet wide.
We have a great selection of ‘Baldsmith’, including one very mature specimen with excellent character. It is a cascading laceleaf with finely cut leaves that changes color with each season. New growth emerges deep red and orange and changes to mostly green while retaining red margins giving a distinct bi-color appearance. By summer leaves fade to all green before autumn sets in a range of colors from yellow to red to orange. A slow grower that reaches heights of 6 to 10 feet and is hardy to Zone 6.
We have a display garden specimen available. A weeping maple with bright chartreuse yellow-green leaves that emerge in spring and fade to a deeper green throughout the summer. Fall brings bright yellow leaves sometimes tinged with orange. Flavescens matures to 6 feet wide and 10 feet tall and is hardy to zone 5b.
